History of Boy Scout Troop 1
Boy Scout Troop 1 of Passaic,
NJ is the oldest Troop in the City of Passaic and continues to
be very active in the community. Our Troop was first chartered
as Boy Scout Troop 26 in the year 1921. The Troop first opened
its doors to scouts at Holy Trinity R.C. in Passaic, NJ. Troop
meetings were held every friday in the school gym from 1921 up
until the year of shutting down its doors in the year 1998. The
Troop then re-charted and found our new home at Holy Rosary R.C.
Church from the year 2000-2003. Currently, our Boy Scout Troop
will now be sponsored by members of the Pavlik Koster VFW
Post 2642 in Wallington, NJ. Boy Scout
Troop 1 (formerly Troop 26) has generated 17 Eagle Scouts and
will be generating a couple more by the end of the year 2006. We
are well on our way to committing our selves to the youth of the
City of Passaic.
Troop #26 was founded in 1921, 10
years after the Scouting movement was founded. Lawrence T.
Boeglen Sr. was the first Scoutmaster of Troop #26 and also the
first to receive the St. George Award in 1956 in the Diocese of
Paterson. We had many Eagle Scouts
in our Troop. Our first Eagle Scout was Albert Booth in 1940.
Our next Eagle Scout candidates are Chintan Rana and Eric Kovac. They
both are entering there fourth year in Scouting.
We have had a long history and
tradition at Holy Trinity Parish. At one time we had our own
Marching Band and owned our own Scout Camp. Camp Schulte, in
honor of Fr. Schulte. At the present we have 25 active members
under the leadership of David Ovejero, Scoutmaster for the 38
years and two active Assistant Scoutmasters, Jerry Gonzalez ( 20
years), and Bob Parker (33 years). All of our adult leaders are
active members of the
Catholic
Committee on Scouting and recipients of the Bronze Pelican
and St. George Awards.
Our troop has entered the digital
age and can now be visited on the internet. We have a current
calendar of events and other Boy Scout Links that people can
visit. We also have an extensive photo album on the site. Our
motto for our Boy Scout Troop is "Troop #26, Always Prepared".
In 2006 our Boy Scout Troop
celebrated our 85th anniversary with a huge turnout of
supporters. Please continue your support to our troop. We will
be conducting our Annual Hot Dog Gala in April of 2008.
